The University of Kigali (UoK) Governing Body has recently named Professor Ogechi Adeola as the Deputy Vice-Chancellor – Academic (DVCA), effective from January 11, 2024. Professor Adeola, a distinguished expert in Marketing, holds a Doctorate in Business Administration and an MBA from Alliance Manchester Business School, UK. Her academic journey includes earning a Bachelor of Law degree from the University of Nigeria and a Barrister at Law certificate from the Nigerian Law School.
Prior to her appointment at UoK, Professor Adeola served as the Head of the Department of Operations, Marketing, and Information Systems at Lagos Business School (LBS), Pan-Atlantic University, Nigeria. She also assumed the role of Academic Director at LBS Sales Academy. With over 28 years of experience in both industry and academia, she has a robust background, having worked in various capacities within Nigeria’s financial sector, including Citibank Nigeria.
Her extensive educational background includes executive programs at renowned institutions such as Harvard Business School, The Wharton School, Stanford University’s Graduate School of Business, London Business School, and Cranfield School of Management. She has augmented her pedagogical skills through specialized training in case teaching and teaching innovation programs.
Professor Adeola’s research spans marketing strategy, sustainability, tourism, and gender studies, with a focus on African business concepts. She has contributed significantly to academia, with over 120 articles, books, conference papers, and case studies published in top-tier journals. Her achievements have earned her recognition, including being ranked as the No. 1 scientist in Nigeria for Marketing in the January 2024 Alper-Doger Scientific Index.
Apart from her academic prowess, Professor Adeola is known for her teaching and mentoring. She has conducted sessions at various institutions, including Lagos Business School, China Europe International Business School (CEIBS), University of Ghana Business School, and University of Professional Studies Accra (UPSA).
Professor Adeola’s consultancy expertise encompasses strategic marketing, brand management, intra-regional advisory, and gender equity services for organizations globally. She has served as a consultant for the Centre for Global Enterprise, USA, and worked on projects with companies such as the London Taxi Company, Texas Capital Bank, and Dusit International.
Her commitment to women’s empowerment is evident through her non-profit initiative, the Digital Business Tutelage for Women Empowerment in Africa (DBTWEAi). Professor Adeola’s contributions to this cause have earned her prestigious awards, including the Female Achievers Recognition Award and The Peak Performing Woman of the Year 2023 Award in the Super Achievers category for Executive Education.
A Fellow of the Institute of Strategic Management, Nigeria, and the National Institute of Marketing of Nigeria, Professor Ogechi Adeola brings a wealth of expertise and a commitment to excellence to her new role as Deputy Vice-Chancellor – Academic at the University of Kigali.
